Philotimo (fee-lo-tee-mo)

Philotimo is a Greek noun that has the literal translation of "love of honor". I chose Philotimo as the name of my practice because it reflects the values that guide both my life and especially my work as a therapist. In Greek culture, philotimo is a word that is deeply woven into the fabric of community and personal integrity—it encompasses honor, a deep respect for self and others, responsibility, empathy, and generosity. The very things I bring into the therapeutic relationship. It’s a quality of character that can’t be forced or imposed, but instead is inspired and learned. For me, philotimo represents the heart of therapy: helping people recognize and cultivate their own inner wisdom, integrity, and compassion. Just as philotimo encourages doing what is right without expectation, my approach to therapy draws on my Greek culture and focuses on fostering a space of trust, empathy, and growth, where you can honor your journey, learn a few things with humility and humor, and be attuned to our nervous systems.
